some of this

some of this

and some of this
Late winter and early spring have dropped some good days on us whether it's been at Wrightsville Beach or a leap across the inlet to Masonboro.  The last couple weeks the weather has been steadily improving and the water temp has been on the rise.  Most people are out without boots and gloves and the walrus suits of winter are slowly getting thinner.  Bikinis and board shorts have been along the edge of the shore and a couple in the line-up but they aren't lasting long in the 60 deg water.  It won't be long and we will all be out of the neoprene for a while.  Hallelu Jah.

I have been waiting for a few days for waves and missed the good one a week or so ago.  finally today 3ft @ 5secs.  not great, not good even but a chance to go.  Probably a decent day for the 1st test ride on the new simmons (more on that at a later time).  It was almost to hot for the new 4/3 Ripcurl classic on the beach.  70ish on the beach and 55 in the water are you kidding me?  Last winter this time we had been in a serious cold snap for over a month and the water was in the low 40's and not many days over 50.  I think I'm gonna run my lawn mower a while and maybe burn some trash, too.  Probably shouldn't be to happy March and April it'll most likely snow.  Anyway enjoy it while you can.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.   just got done with 0004.  5'6'' mini.  22" wide. 2 3/4 thick.  2home brew fins.  and some resin tint.  getting ready to get ready.  could be awhile before it gets wet not much in the forecast here at wrightsville beach.  hope it stays in the 70's a few more weeks but that is not likely.  Tons of Thanks to my boy Big Al at the Rooster Shack for letting me take it over the last few days to knock this little simmons out.
build it, ride it.

wrightsville beach winter surfing

wrightville beach dusk

It's offically winter in my book.  The christmas tree got put up yesterday, the beach water temp dipped into the upper 50's.  This morning it was 29 degrees at ILM and 30 degrees at JMPN7 (NOAA buoy for Johnny Mercer's Pier).  I was jacking my lips, a month ago, in a crowded line talking about how i couldn't wait for winter and the thinning of the line up but i had forgetten what 29 felt like.  The three great things about winter in SE NC, thinned out surf, stump sound oysters and striped bass.  More on these three great things to come.  Oh yeah there are four great things and making some new boards for the New Year.
