passing of tropical storm beryl

swell is a dying

heading N

mercers pier
Since Saturday the SENC coast has had some crazy NE wind and some burly wind swell from the Tropical Storm/Depression whatever Beryl.  It went  South? to Georgia spun around and headed back up the coast bringing some much need rain and more ocean nuggets.  Earlier today SE wind had Wrightsville Beach looking a mess and around the 130-2 o'clock the wind went offshore and the people watching made a break for the beach.  As the tide fell and the wind continued offshore the swell slowly started to drop off.  But we'll take whatever surf we can get.  Hope you made it out and got you some, if not here's a few pics.

Wrightsville Beach, as Tropical Depression Alberto moved passed, got a nice swell this morning.  The wind was W at 7 and had started to roll to the SW by 9.  That SW was holding up the Easterly Swell making for some nice chest high walls on the high tide.  By 11 the wind had gone SE and was starting to mess with it a bit, but people were still heading to the beach in droves.  Right now the wind is S at 15 gusting up to 17 and really messing it up.  If you didn't get it early maybe wait to this evening.  Hopefully, the wind will let up and the rising tide will keep it going.

off topic

here are some pics sent to me by my good friend G-money of a mini-tug boat festival in Woudsend, Holland that happened last weekend.  the outboards are of German and Swiss origin, 1915-1935.  you gotta love some brass outboards and wooden boats.  to be in Holland in the spring, one day i will stop talking and get there.  thanks for the pics. see ya soon.

last night a nice storm rolled through and one unlucky pine tree in hugh macrae park caught the brunt of a bolt.  the wind swell from that approaching storm left us with some nice swell at Wrightsville Beach this morning.  A small cell was running up the coast this morning and as it passed the wind laid down for an hour or so and I was able the get some photos of the wrightsville beach nameless and then get wet my self.  Tomorrow should be as good as today with more offshore winds, we'll see.  You might want to call in with some form of morning sickness.

baggies and bikinis

there were all kinds of people out today.  most were in baggies or bikinis only.  marsh grass is all over the beach after that super full moon drug it out of the sound.  summer is just around the corner at Wrightsville Beach.  after about 2 hrs in the water I got out and grabbed a few photos then took it to the house.
