another fine day of surfing and photos at Wrightsville Beach.  the storms of yesterday gave us some nice
swell most of today.  the offshore winds slowly knocked it down as the tide fell especially on the south end but columbia street was working most of the day.  Johnny Mercer's was also a favorite most of the morning where you could surf with 50 of your best friends on just about any bar that was working.

Thursday Swell

Some swell was showing yesterday at the South End of Wrightsville Beach.  Wind NNW (going N) and ESE swell.
Mostly closing out on the larger swell.  But there was one bar almost at the jetty that was providing
some longer lines.  The pier had a rip that was tearing up the line but a few guys were managing some
decent rides.  By the time I paddled out the wind was starting to pick up (heading more N and NNE) and the tide was falling hard, chopping up the faces.  Better than what we have though, not complaining.

Local Master

I was cruising on Craiglist this morning and found an entry, fish shaped by local Hall of Famer Bill Curry.  It listed his board brand, LocalSol.  Quick google and saaanapp, http://www.localsol.blogspot.com/ .  I first met Bill when he owned Winter Park Schwinn.  It had bikes and surfboards in the store, I was neck deep in playing Ultimate at UNCW at the time and surfing wasn't really on my radar but i thought wow bike and surfboards, sweet store and a great guy.  I bought a Trek 850 from him in 1989, still have it.

Bill is one of Wrightsville Beaches local legends.  If you get to see him ride a longboard you will know why, oh he kills it on a shortboard too.  AND he builds and rides his own backyard boards.  Gotta LOVE it.

yesterday, at Wrightsville Beach, we still had some remaining swell from the weekend.  If you got out early before the tide got it, it was pretty fun.  As the tide rose the swell slowly got buried under the tide for somethings other than a log.  Today a pig would have been best as the tide started to rise.  It's fairly small with a few trying to break outside but its gonna be a low tide thing .  Really slick this morning, should have went fishing.  I bet there are still some drum and trout in the surf somewhere.

wednesday full moon worm tide

waist high easterly swell this morning.  it was still breaking fairly well even with the wormy full moon tide.  looked like it was pretty good all day at C street according to the daily pic on wblive.  til next time.

jan's the man

I have seen this T-bucket truck around Wrightsville Beach for the past year or so and have always wanted to get a couple shots of it.  I was in the right place the other day and at the right time to talk to the owner.  Jan surprised me when he told me the truck was actually a 1980 Toyota pickup and that he did all of his own fabrication.  Sweet.  I like it the head light buckets are made from 5 gallon metal buckets.
