sunday morning best day yet

5'5" and catches'em like a dream even an old bastard can get it on

Saturday night I got a call from my boy AR (rooster shack).  AR, his wife, my son(8) and me short boat ride, secluded island, sunrise of purple, blue, orange and red, empty beach, perfect green waist high walls left and right, paddling out with two great friends and my son, sons first two waves unassisted (he paddled for an hour to get'em), riding a rooster shack minisimmons (pictured above) til my arms fell off.  no camera but it's all burnt in the grey matter.  10 years ago not a great day in the USA.  But Sunday September 11, 2011 one of my best days ever.

Never Forget what has gotten us where we are and those that gave up life and limb to keep us here.

hurricane katia wrightsville beach pt3

10' at frying pan and 3.9' at 41110 slow grind on the bottom killing the swell

not exactly head high

old neighbor ruling the line up on his SUP

closing on the pier

hey look out
Lots of people were let down as they walked out on the beach before sunrise.  The head high swell was getting killed before it hit the beach.  It was 10' at Frying Pan Tower and 3.9 at the Masonboro Buoy.  Still fun and it lasted all day.  There were some (long swell period) big sets and some nice little barrels for the ones in the right spot at the right time.  Life at Wrightsville Beach.

katia pt2

pt 2 of Wrightsville Beach Katia swell.  afternoon was a bit more crowded.  multiple drop-ins going on as everyone was trying to get theirs.   school groms were out in mass and killing it.

wednesday katia

The swell from Katia is picking up and the beach is empty of swimmers.  With summer officially done and swell on the way as Maria heads for the Caribbean more waves should be coming after this round.  Everyone stay safe and enjoy the ride.

hurricane irene the monday after

No one out but the WB Ocean Rescue.  I'm gonna change that.

one lone soldier soon to be joined by a few more
Buoy 41110 3.3'@ 9secs. and fog in the park.  this is what it looked like this morning with the tide cresting and beginning to fall.  When I left at 11:00 there were ten people out and it had only gotten better.  Have fun in school. Gotta clean the yard.

thursday before

Pre-irene.  some solid chest high sets.  About every thirty minutes or so there would be some head high ones but they were dumping pretty hard so you had to be way outside so even get a chance.  We rode out the storm last night without power and came back on at 9:30 this morning.  Still blowing and there is a ton of pinecones everywhere.
